Quang Ninh: Ha Long tourism determined to ensure growth target

Despite heavy impacts from storm No. 3, tourism businesses in Ha Long City quickly restored operations to ensure service quality and continue welcoming visitors.

Just five days after the storm, Saigon - Ha Long Hotel welcomed many tourist groups, mainly international guests. According to Nguyen Thai Hung, General Director of Saigon - Ha Long Hotel, tourists sympathize with the difficulties caused by natural disasters but always prioritize safety. The hotel promptly carried out clean-up and repairs to meet these expectations and has now returned to normal operations.

Most accommodation facilities in Ha Long suffered serious damage, from broken glass, roof tiles, ceilings, and furniture to fallen trees, damaged utilities, and collapsed structures. Yet with determination to recover quickly, 36 out of 39 four- to five-star hotels with nearly 5,200 rooms are already welcoming guests. Smaller-scale facilities from one to three stars, totaling about 580 hotels with 8,540 rooms, are also operating normally.

Cruise operations at Ha Long International Cruise Port and Tuan Chau International Cruise Port have largely resumed. Of 359 anchored ships, 315 have returned to service, accounting for 88 percent. Between September 10 and 17, Ha Long Bay welcomed nearly 30,000 visitors, of which almost 90 percent were international, reaffirming its reputation as a must-visit destination in Vietnam.

French visitor Claire Lonchamt said she was initially worried when learning that Ha Long had been directly hit by the storm, but upon arrival was reassured by the rapid recovery and professional service. Seeing cruise ships bustling with passengers made her feel confident in enjoying her holiday.

Several attractions including Quang Ninh Museum, the Provincial Planning and Exhibition Center, Sun World entertainment complex, and Tuan Chau tourist area also sustained damage. Immediately after the storm, Ha Long City launched a campaign called “Seven days and nights to overcome the consequences of storm No. 3,” mobilizing authorities, businesses, and residents to accelerate recovery. According to Phan Thi Hai Huong, Head of the Propaganda Department of Ha Long City Party Committee, the priority was to ensure conditions to welcome visitors back as soon as possible, with businesses actively repairing facilities and maintaining service for both pre-booked and new groups.

Alongside business efforts, on September 12 the Ha Long City Party Committee met with enterprises, including those in tourism, to seek solutions for tax policy relief, loan restructuring, interest rate reductions, and production recovery. The city will also propose to the provincial authorities additional policies to support affected businesses.

Since the beginning of 2024, Ha Long has welcomed more than nine million visitors, including 2.1 million international tourists. With its orientation as an international tourism city, Ha Long remains committed to overcoming challenges, recovering swiftly, and achieving its goal of over 9.5 million visitors this year.
