Ho Chi Minh City Prepares for the 3rd Orchid Festival: Honoring the Beauty of Flowers, Connecting Culture, Tourism, and Agriculture

A Vibrant Event

According to Mr. Pham Quang Hoi, Director of the Agricultural Consulting and Support Center of Ho Chi Minh City, preparations for the 3rd Ho Chi Minh City Orchid Festival are being finalized. The festival, set to take place from May 16 to 20, 2025, at Tao Dan Park, District 1, is expected to be a unique cultural and agricultural event.

Impressive Scale and Diversity

This year's festival is expected to attract about 200 artisans and gardeners from cooperatives across the country, showcasing a total of 39,000 products, a significant increase compared to previous editions.

Notably, around 34,000 products (67%) will come from Ho Chi Minh City and provinces known for their orchid traditions, such as Vinh and Ha Tinh. Additionally, the festival will feature international artisans from the United Kingdom and other countries, elevating the event and fostering international exchange in the field of ornamental flowers.

A Unique Journey through "Flower Stations"

Inspired by the historical journey of the North-South Unification Train, which simultaneously departed from Hanoi and Saigon on December 31, 1976, symbolizing the country's aspiration for peace and unity, the exhibition space will be uniquely designed under the theme "The Multicolor Train."

Combining the image of the traditional North-South train and the modern Metro line, the festival will offer a vibrant journey through six "flower stations":

- Green and Clear Water Station: Representing the Northern region

- Poetic Beauty Station: Depicting the Central Coastal region

- Breath of the Highlands Station: Symbolizing the Central Highlands

- City of Fifty Flower Seasons Station: Celebrating the Southeast region

- Charming Waterway Station: Featuring the Southwest region

- Green City, Future City Station: Highlighting the sustainable development of Ho Chi Minh City

A Rich Cultural Experience

The festival will not only showcase orchids but also serve as a space for cultural, artistic, and culinary convergence. Key activities will include:

- Exhibition of handicrafts and unique agricultural products

- Folk art performances, traditional games, and interactions with artisans

- Culinary programs featuring renowned chefs and food experts

The City Orchid Competition will also take place, featuring 500 orchid samples competing in seven main categories:

- Dendrobium Flash Orchid

- Regular Dendrobium

- Small and Large Cattleya

- Paphiopedilum Orchid (Lady's Slipper)

- Wild Orchids

- Hybrid Orchids

Comprehensive Promotion

Mr. Pham Quang Hoi noted that the organizers have actively coordinated with media outlets and television stations while implementing a wide-reaching communication campaign to residents of Ho Chi Minh City and surrounding areas such as the Central Highlands and Southeast region. Detailed festival information, including QR codes, will be provided for easy public access and participation.

A Symbol of Cultural and Agricultural Integration

The Ho Chi Minh City Orchid Festival is not merely an industry-specific event but also a key activity marking the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025). With extensive planning and enthusiastic participation from both domestic and international communities, the festival is expected to honor the orchid, a primary agricultural product of Ho Chi Minh City, while promoting tourism, trade, and the city’s cultural identity.

Continuing a Proud Tradition

Held biennially, the 3rd Orchid Festival marks a strong comeback following the second edition in 2023, which attracted over 29,000 products, with Ho Chi Minh City contributing 91% of the total. Continuing this tradition reflects the city's ongoing efforts to connect urban agriculture with cultural and tourism development, paving the way for sustainable and identity-rich economic growth.
