Vietnam's Tourism Industry Welcomes Nearly 4.6 Million International Visitors in Q1 2024

According to the General Statistics Office, Vietnam welcomed approximately 4.6 million international visitors in the first quarter of 2024, marking a 72% increase compared to the same period in 2023 and a 3.2% rise compared to Q1 2019, the year before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Key Highlights:

- March 2024: Vietnam received over 1.6 million international visitors, representing a 4.7% increase compared to February 2024 and a 78.6% increase compared to March 2023.

- First Quarter 2024: The country welcomed nearly 4.6 million international visitors, up 72% year-over-year and 3.2% higher than the same period in 2019.

- Visitor Composition: Among the total international arrivals, 87.4% arrived by air, 11.6% by land, and 1% by sea.

- Top Source Markets: South Korea remained the leading source market with over 1 million visitors, followed by China, the United States, Taiwan (China), and Japan.

- Tourism Revenue: Total revenue from accommodation and food services in Q1 2024 was estimated at VND 174.7 trillion, up 14.2% year-over-year. Travel and tourism services generated approximately VND 14.1 trillion, a 35.8% increase compared to the same period last year.

Outlook:

The positive growth in international arrivals and tourism revenue in Q1 2024 reflects the strong recovery and development momentum of Vietnam's tourism industry. With continued efforts to promote destinations, improve service quality, and enhance infrastructure, Vietnam aims to attract more international tourists and achieve the target of welcoming 18 million international visitors in 2024.
