Bac Ninh: Fruit Harvest Season Attracts Visitors from Near and Far

Across several communes and wards in Bac Ninh Province, orchards are entering peak harvest season. The bright yellow citrus gardens in Chu, Luc Ngan, Phuong Son and Luc Son are drawing large numbers of visitors who come to enjoy the scenery and pick fruit directly from the trees. Local growers, cooperatives and businesses are also preparing for the Bac Ninh Fruit Festival 2025.

This period marks a vibrant atmosphere in the orchards of Phuong Son, Chu, Luc Ngan, Nam Duong and Luc Son. Traders arrive to purchase fruit while tourists explore the orchards. Farmers celebrate a successful season with strong yields and high prices. Visitors enjoy the peaceful setting and the sweetness of freshly picked fruit.

Nguyen Thi Bien, a resident of Yen Dung Ward, shared her impressions after her first visit to the citrus region. She described her surprise at the beauty of the orchards and her regret for not coming sooner. Like many visitors, she and her friends dressed in traditional-inspired outfits and spent time capturing memorable moments in the garden.

Ecotourism sites such as Hoa Qua Son in Xe Cu Quarter of Chu Ward, the orchard of Trinh Su Hoa in Cong Village of Kien Lao Commune and Bau Tien in Dong Dao Quarter of Phuong Son Ward have become popular stops. Weekends often see groups arriving from neighboring provinces to experience the harvest and purchase products.

From the beginning of the year, Bac Ninh has welcomed more than six million visitors. Tourism-related revenue has exceeded 5.2 trillion VND. The harvest of citrus fruits, along with the upcoming Fruit Festival, is expected to increase visitor numbers, with forecasts of roughly 350,000 arrivals during the festival period.

The Bac Ninh Fruit Festival 2025 will take place from 5 to 11 December in Chu Ward. To prepare for rising tourist demand during peak harvest and festival days, local travel businesses, cooperatives, farmers and authorities have been upgrading infrastructure. Road systems, accommodation facilities, restaurants and mobility services such as electric cars, motorbikes and bicycles are being expanded to support visitors.

There are currently 35 tourism-registered cooperatives across the Luc Ngan area. Many have invested in land acquisition, landscape improvements and organic fruit cultivation. New tourism products are being developed to attract visitors. One example is Garden Viet Experience Cooperative in Bong 2 Quarter of Chu Ward. Member Dinh Phuong Nam shared that his family invested more than seven billion VND in building a wooden stilt house, swimming pool, check-in areas and a restaurant. Since the start of the citrus season, the site has welcomed more than one thousand guests from cities including Bac Ninh, Hanoi, Can Tho, Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as international visitors from Japan, South Korea and China.

The cooperative also partners with orchards that grow citrus, grapes and melons, the Thu Duong craft village in Nam Duong Commune, spiritual tourism sites and accommodation facilities in the area to provide a complete travel experience. Visitors are offered local delicacies such as Chu rice noodles, Phong Van horse meat rolls, khau nhục, wild vegetables and stream fish. A signature specialty of the Nung ethnic community, Kien Thanh herbal fermented liquor, is also served.

A Season of Double Benefits
Beyond Luc Ngan, other localities such as Luc Son in the former Luc Nam District are also entering peak harvest. In Binh Giang Village of Luc Son Commune, farmer Dong Thi Chin proudly checks her red pomelos as they ripen. Thanks to careful cultivation, her orchard produced higher quality fruit this year. Traders from Hanoi visited in late October and purchased the entire two-hectare orchard. The red pomelos, which are often used for Lunar New Year offerings, sold for 130,000 to 140,000 VND each with a total quantity of about 3,000 fruits. Other pomelo varieties such as Dao Chuyen, Dao Duong and Dien Pomelo, totaling roughly 17,000 fruits, were sold for 15,000 to 16,000 VND each. Her family expects earnings of about 650 million VND.

She also noted that her VietGAP-certified orchard has become a popular stop for tourism cooperatives bringing visitors from Chu and Phuong Son. Each visitor pays a fee of 30,000 VND to enter and experience the orchard, adding an extra income stream for the family.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Bac Ninh has recorded more than six million visitors so far this year. With tourism revenue surpassing 5.2 trillion VND, the citrus harvest and Fruit Festival are projected to attract an additional 350,000 visitors. The tourism sector encourages localities, travel agencies and cooperatives to strengthen promotion efforts and develop tours that combine orchard visits with cultural experiences across the province.

Tourism sites are also preparing facilities to welcome guests during the festival. Exhibits will feature citrus fruits, local agricultural specialties, OCOP products, provincial and national rural industry products, processed agricultural goods, regional specialties, handicrafts and environmentally friendly items.

During the festival, the Provincial Center for Culture and Tourism Promotion will survey and introduce community-based tourism destinations and fruit-growing regions. It will also organize the Bac Ninh Destination Promotion Conference 2025. These efforts aim to highlight the province’s tourism potential, strengthen service quality and enhance local workforce readiness. The festival is expected to drive interest in agricultural and experiential tourism, attracting visitors, travel agencies and investors from within and beyond the province.
