Thailand Launches the Luxury Blue Jasmine Train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai
Thailand’s growing appeal as a premium travel destination continues to rise with the launch of the Blue Jasmine train, a new luxury rail experience connecting Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Scheduled to debut in November this year, the journey offers a distinctive slow travel experience designed for high end travelers seeking comfort, culture and immersive discovery.
A Boutique Hotel on Rails
Operated by DTH Travel in partnership with the State Railway of Thailand, the Blue Jasmine train is a restored vintage train originally built in the 1960s. It was once used as a long distance sleeper train in Japan, and its story now continues in Thailand as an elevated rail journey for luxury travelers.
The train has been redesigned as a boutique hotel on wheels with wide corridors, generous natural light and refined cabins. Guests can expect attentive service and scenic views throughout the journey, which aims to deliver a sophisticated and meaningful slow travel experience.
A Journey Through Thailand’s Cultural Heartlands
The itinerary introduces travelers to five remarkable provinces with curated stops in Ayutthaya, Uthai Thani, Chiang Mai and Sukhothai. In Ayutthaya, the former royal capital, guests enjoy a peaceful lotus pond lunch before exploring UNESCO listed temples by tuk tuk. Uthai Thani offers the opportunity to participate in a traditional almsgiving ceremony and visit some of Thailand’s most impressive temples.
The next destination is Chiang Mai, where guests visit an elephant sanctuary and enjoy farm to table dining at a secluded mountain resort. The journey then moves onward to Sukhothai, home to one of Thailand’s most important UNESCO recognized heritage sites.
The full nine day journey connects Bangkok with ancient ruins, riverside communities, historic temples and mountain landscapes, all accompanied by authentic culinary and cultural experiences.
Onboard and Onshore Experiences
During the journey, guests can relax in the Panorama Lounge with handcrafted cocktails, take part in workshops on traditional Thai crafts and enjoy exclusive culinary experiences and personalized butler service. Additional activities are offered during off train excursions, including pottery workshops, mountain picnics and silk weaving.
Cabin Options and Schedule
The train has ten carriages and accommodates only thirty seven passengers. Cabins are offered in three categories: classic, premium and premium suite. Guests may choose shared or private bathrooms, private dining, panoramic lounge access and even outdoor balconies depending on cabin type. The journey includes two nights onboard combined with stays at heritage hotels along the route.
The inaugural departure is scheduled for November 11 to 24. Additional journeys will operate in January, February, March, July, November and December 2026. Prices begin at one hundred ninety five thousand baht per person for a classic cabin based on double occupancy and reach up to three hundred ten thousand baht for a premium suite with private butler service.
