Alma Resort Introduces New Vegan Menu
Asiana Restaurant, known for Korean, Thai and Japanese specialties, now offers a selection of plant-based dishes designed for guests who enjoy vegan cuisine. Highlights include Thai Green Curry with tofu and plant-based chicken prepared with seasonal vegetables, green curry paste, coconut milk and Thai basil, served with steamed rice. Other Thai-inspired dishes include Thai Fried Rice with plant-based chicken floss, along with a stir-fried vegetable selection featuring broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, shiitake mushrooms and king oyster mushrooms.
Japanese-inspired options include the crispy California Roll made with plant-based salmon, nori, avocado, pickled radish and cucumber. Another signature item is the Vegan Salmon Nigiri which brings a creative twist to traditional sushi.
The menu also introduces dishes such as Vegan Chicken Katsu Curry served with Japanese curry sauce, steamed rice and pickled ginger. Guests can also try Braised Eggplant with plant-based pork, cooked with vegan oyster sauce, coriander and leek, served with steamed rice.
Other dining venues at Alma Resort including Atlantis beachfront restaurant, La Casa Italian restaurant, Alma Food Court and Alma Lounge have also added vegan dishes to their menus. The staff dining canteen now serves vegan meals twice a month for resort employees.
Many of the ingredients come directly from the resort’s organic herb garden and nursery. Alma Resort collaborated with journalist Paul Eyers, founder of Vegan Food Quest, to design the menu, train staff and advise on product selection and existing menu development.
Herbert Laubichler-Pichler, General Manager of Alma Resort, shared that there are many strong reasons to adopt a plant-based diet. He emphasized the resort’s responsibility to serve guests who follow vegan lifestyles as well as those considering a healthier transition to plant-based choices. He noted the health benefits of vegan diets and highlighted environmental concerns, including the loss of millions of trees in the Amazon and the widespread use of industrial farming.
Paul Eyers, who has followed a vegan lifestyle for more than a decade, added that introducing a vegan menu demonstrates Alma Resort’s commitment to sustainability. He noted that Southeast Asia has one of the highest proportions of plant-based eaters globally. Searches for vegan food increased significantly during 2021 when global interest in healthier and more sustainable eating surged.
