Gia Lai to Host the 2025 Wild Sunflower and Chu Dang Ya Volcano Week from 14 to 16 November

Gia Lai Province will organise the Wild Sunflower and Chu Dang Ya Volcano Week 2025 with key activities taking place from 14 to 16 November. The event will highlight the cultural, sports and tourism identity of Gia Lai during the vibrant wild sunflower season.

The plan was confirmed by Vice Chairwoman of the Gia Lai Provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Thị Thanh Lịch during a working session with relevant departments and agencies to review preparations for the 2025 festival.

The full programme is expected to run from 2 to 16 November with the main activities concentrated over the final weekend. The event combines a diverse range of supporting activities to create a dynamic atmosphere and showcase the beauty of Gia Lai when the wild sunflowers bloom across the volcanic landscape.

The opening activity is the “Gia Lai City Trail – Dream of the Great Forest” race on 2 November. This sporting event sets the tone for the festival and attracts visitors who enjoy outdoor and nature based experiences.

The festival programme is structured around four key activity groups. These include culture and arts, gastronomy and local specialties, tourism promotion and communication, and essential services such as safety, security and event operations.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has been assigned to lead the organisation of the festival. The department will work closely with sectoral agencies to curate a safe and effective event that embraces local cultural identity. Activities will be designed to engage visitors, strengthen the festival experience and enhance Gia Lai’s tourism appeal.

Food spaces will be coordinated in collaboration with the Provincial Culinary Culture Association to introduce regional flavours and signature dishes. The Literature and Arts Association will organise an art camp focused on painting, photography and sculpture inspired by the Chu Dang Ya volcano, wild sunflowers and Gia Lai culture. Selected artists and artisans will be invited to join the creative activities and exhibit their works at the festival.

Communication and media plans will also be developed to promote environmental awareness and preserve the natural beauty of Chu Dang Ya and the wild sunflowers, which have become symbolic of the festival season.

The Department of Industry and Trade will work with the Departments of Agriculture and Environment to host an OCOP display area featuring local products and Gia Lai coffee, one of the province’s most recognisable tourism icons.

Relevant departments will coordinate closely to ensure smooth operations in transportation, healthcare, food safety and environmental hygiene. The goal is to deliver a safe, cost effective and culturally rich event for residents and visitors.

A special highlight of this year’s festival is the celebration of the 20th anniversary of UNESCO’s recognition of the Space of Gong Culture in the Central Highlands as a Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The commemoration, held within the festival framework, will honour the cultural values and spiritual identity of the Central Highlands and enhance global appreciation of this unique heritage.

The 2025 Wild Sunflower and Chu Dang Ya Volcano Week is expected to become a vibrant cultural tourism highlight, bringing the golden landscapes of Gia Lai and the resonant sound of gong culture closer to domestic and international travellers.
