Vinh Long Opens Culture, Sports and Tourism Week Celebrating the Ok Om Bok Festival

On the evening of October 30, at Pham Ngu Lao Park in Tra Vinh Ward, the People’s Committee of Vinh Long Province inaugurated the 2025 Culture, Sports and Tourism Week to celebrate the Ok Om Bok Festival under the theme “Discover and Experience the National Intangible Cultural Heritage - Ok Om Bok Festival.”

The weeklong event runs from October 30 to November 5, 2025, featuring more than 19 diverse cultural, artistic, sports and tourism activities. It creates a vibrant platform for exchange, cooperation and promotion of Vinh Long’s image as a dynamic, friendly and hospitable destination.

Activities take place across various venues including the former Tra Vinh Cultural Center, Nguyet Hoa Square, Ao Ba Om Relic Site and the Khmer Cultural Museum. The event also features a trade promotion fair, the “Southern Vietnam Culinary Space 2025,” a tourism exhibition themed “Vinh Long - The Land of Convergence - One Route, Three Destinations,” and several exciting sports competitions.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Quynh Thien emphasized that following the recent administrative merger, Vinh Long has become a strategic hub of the Southern region, offering new opportunities for economic growth, investment, trade, tourism and international cooperation.

Vinh Long is also known as a land of cultural and historical depth, home to many national heroes and prominent figures such as poet Nguyen Dinh Chieu, Professor and Hero of Labor Tran Dai Nghia, Chairman of the Council of Ministers Pham Hung, Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet, General Nguyen Thi Dinh and Hero of the Armed Forces Nguyen Thi Ut.

The province currently has 214 recognized historical and cultural relics, including two national special relics, 45 national relics and 167 provincial sites. Notable landmarks include the Ho Chi Minh Temple, the Nguyen Dinh Chieu Memorial Site, the Ben Tre Dong Khoi Historical Site, the national scenic site of Ao Ba Om, the Khmer temple complex in Tra Vinh and the Van Thanh Mieu Temple in Vinh Long.

Vinh Long is also home to 19 national intangible cultural heritages preserved and promoted by local communities, such as Southern Don Ca Tai Tu, classical opera (Hat Boi), Sắc Bùa singing, and the Ro Bam art form, along with many traditional festivals and craft villages. Among them, the Ok Om Bok Festival of the Khmer ethnic community stands out as one of the most representative celebrations of Southern Vietnamese culture.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Quynh Thien further noted that the “Culture, Sports and Tourism Week Celebrating the Ok Om Bok Festival 2025” marks a large-scale event reflecting the province’s determination to make culture a driving force for sustainable development. It is also an opportunity to honor and widely promote the rich traditions and humanistic values of the Khmer people - their diligence, kindness, warmth and creativity - while sharing the cultural essence of Southern Vietnam with the rest of the country and international friends.
