According to the newly released Virtuoso Luxe Report 2026, affluent travelers are shifting away from conventional notions of luxury. Instead of focusing solely on opulence, they now seek rare, meaningful, and transformative experiences, and are willing to pay more for exclusivity and authenticity.

Leading destinations for this demographic are often remote, culturally rich, and environmentally conscious. Bhutan exemplifies this trend, welcoming a limited number of visitors who contribute to environmental preservation and community well-being while experiencing deep cultural immersion.

Other trending destinations include regions with pristine natural beauty and mild climates, such as the tranquil fjords of Greenland, the volcanic landscapes of Iceland, and the vast icy expanses of Antarctica.

Moreover, 76% of luxury travelers now prefer to travel during the off-season to avoid crowds and enjoy slower, more intimate journeys.

In the top 10 destinations for luxury travelers in 2026, cultural hotspots like Morocco and Egypt stand out for their exclusive experiences, such as private Nile cruises and early access to the new Egyptian Museum. Notably, Vietnam has climbed three places to rank sixth, thanks to its exceptional value, distinctive cultural richness, and its growing reputation as a refined yet less crowded alternative to other booming Asian destinations.

Japan continues to dominate luxury travel in Asia, with both Tokyo and Kyoto reaffirming their appeal as must-visit cities for elite travelers.

Vietnam’s inclusion in this list signals its rising prominence in global luxury tourism, positioning the country as an inspiring destination that harmoniously blends culture, nature, and high-end hospitality experiences.
