Shuzo Nagumo Returns to Ômm, Sparking a Fascinating Cultural Dialogue
Japanese mixology legend and founder of Mixology Group, Shuzo Nagumo, recently made his return to Ômm Mixology for an exclusive event celebrating the artistry of Japanese tea–inspired cocktails.
Renowned as a pioneer in applying vacuum distillation and centrifugal extraction techniques to Japan’s bar scene, Shuzo, with over 20 years of experience, is recognized as a master of blending science with creativity.
A Dialogue Through Tea and Technique
“The foundation is technique, but what truly touches people is the idea, the concept behind every cocktail,” Shuzo shared during the evening.
The spotlight of the night shone on three tea-based creations, Genmai & Eucalyptus Shandy, Hoji et Paradis, and Green Tea Fashioned, each representing a chapter in the dialogue between Japanese minimalism and Vietnamese expressiveness.
- Genmai & Eucalyptus Shandy offers a light, grounded serenity.
- Hoji et Paradis bridges roasted tea with tropical sweetness.
- Green Tea Fashioned features single-origin matcha from Kyoto, reflecting depth and calm.
For Shuzo, refinement lies not only in taste but also in every precise motion of the bartender. “Even a one-milliliter difference can completely change the emotion of a cocktail,” he noted, a testament to his philosophy rooted in precision, focus, and sensory awareness.
Where Cultures Intertwine
In conversation, Shuzo reflected on his creative journey, drawing inspiration from tea farmers, local ingredients, and moments of cultural intersection. One of his standout creations, Primitive, a cocktail infused with Vietnamese herbs and chili, perfectly embodies this fusion of gastronomy and mixology.
“Vietnam has an incredibly strong creative energy,” Shuzo said. “When Japanese subtlety meets Vietnamese openness, new forms of expression are born.”
A Continuing Vision at Ômm
This event once again reinforced Ômm’s vision as a space where mixology becomes art and where cultures connect through shared creativity. At Ômm, every cocktail is more than a drink, it is an exploration of craftsmanship, culture, and unforgettable sensory experiences.
