Vietnam Secures Ninth UNESCO World Heritage Site
Vietnam has officially added its ninth UNESCO World Heritage Site with the recognition of the Complex of Monuments and Scenic Landscapes of Kiep Bac, Yen Tu, Vinh Nghiem, and Con Son.
The heritage complex spans Bac Ninh, Hai Phong, and Quang Ninh provinces and is closely tied to the origins and growth of the Truc Lam Zen sect. It combines the natural beauty of Vietnam’s Northeast mountains with cultural and historical relics of great significance. The site includes 12 clusters of monuments such as Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen Monastery, Vinh Nghiem Pagoda, Con Son – Kiep Bac Relic Site, Bo Da Pagoda, and the Tran Dynasty Relics in Dong Trieu, along with ancient steles, woodblocks, and sacred landscapes.
In 2025, UNESCO inscribed 26 new sites worldwide while also delisting three endangered ones. With this latest addition, Vietnam now holds nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including its second inter-provincial heritage listing. The recognition highlights both the cultural depth and natural richness of the country while reaffirming its global importance in heritage preservation.
